Teaching and Learning Plan

Helping every student see themselves as a mathematician.

Welcome to Growing Mathematical Minds

Welcome!

This is my teaching and learning plan for a mathematical mindset. This website reflects my journey as a future elementary school teacher and my growing knowledge of equitable, relevant, and interesting approaches to teach mathematics. My goal is to create a classroom where each student believes they can learn mathematics, share their thoughts, make mistakes, and overcome challenges.

I will reflect on my personal experiences as a math learner, investigate research-based teaching methods, create my philosophy for teaching math, and collect methods and materials that can help students and families throughout this website. As I gain more knowledge during my teacher preparation course, this website will keep growing.

Mathematical Mindset in Action

Finding the right answer is just one part of mathematics. It includes asking questions, investigating ideas, drawing connections, explaining our reasoning, and growing from mistakes. In the ideal classroom, students will feel comfortable taking chances, working hard, and realizing their potential as mathematicians.

Every Student Can Grow in Mathematics

My goal is to build a classroom where the students feel confident when asking questions, sharing their ideas, learning from their mistakes, and pushing through challenges. When students believe their mathematical thinking matters, they begin to see themselves as capable and confident mathematicians.
